The 43-year-old actress implied that 21-year-old Gigi, and 20-year-old Kendall were more social media presences than models, suggesting popularity not talent landed them on the world’s catwalks.
“No one has proven yet that numbers of followers translates to revenue, so it is frustrating,” Rebecca told Entertainment Tonight on Tuesday (26Apr16) when she was asked for her opinion on the young fashionistas. “I know a lot of people – legitimate fashion people – can’t stand it. (They) hate it that these, you know, social media stars are now the supermodels in fashion. They are not true supermodels.”
Rebecca has since backtracked on her comments, taking to social media on Wednesday (27Apr16) to clarify her remarks, insisting she wasn’t attacking Gigi and Kendall directly.
“hey @kendalljenner @gigihadid don’t believe the #clickbait. Never talked smack about you. Both amazing & beautiful,” she wrote on Twitter.
But Gigi’s mum wasn’t sold on the comeback.
Foster has defended her daughter, who recently celebrated her 21st birthday, on Twitter, stating: “Kind, hard working and they accomplished more at half your age in the fashion industry.
“It’s THEIR hard work and daily commitment to their profession that got them where they R today.”
