Robert Pattinson, the new face of Dior Homme, covers the March issue French mag Numero Homme looking like pure sex, and talking Twilight.
I’m sure we’ve all wondered what life must be like after doing a franchise that was both extremely profitable, yet extremely made fun of. The ex-vampire, who’s now engaged to FKA Twigs (coolest couple ever), isn’t naive about the consequences of starring as Edward Cullen. “I imagine the audience kept a certain image of me,” he said.
“I always feel like I have to prove myself. I did not have enough lead roles to make the people forget about it or to see me any differently. Waiting for that, I follow my path, with the constant reminder to diversify myself.” (Take note: this is a French to English translation). Robert really didn’t have any lead roles before Twilight, so it was easy to let that franchise define him. So now he’s on the path of really proving what he can do. He’s done a good amount of work since, working with David Cronenberg twice on Cosmopolis and Maps To The Stars.
He went on, “I had a chaotic progression, with moments of explosion. It took years to digest what happened to me, the movies’ success, the celebrity… [Before] I did not have a career’s plan, not particular ambition. I had to create them from time to time.” But he admits starring in those films also completely opened up his career. “That said, my career has not suffered from it. I am not blacklisted from anywhere yet. I am working with whomever I want… So I don’t have the intention to force the audience to change their point of view. I need things to go in an organic way. Maybe one day I’ll be seen differently.”
So it’s kind of a catch 22 right? On one hand, Twilight has opened Robert up to Hollywood, proving he can make the business loads of money. On the other, he has to prove he’s not just a heartthrob. Hmm…all in all I’d say it’s not really a bad situation. Anyway, I’ll just be here drooling on this magazine cover…
